Translated Books
Learning with Elmer by David McKee
Elmer is celebrating his 25th birthday this year! We have read many of the Elmer stories which have been translated into over 40 languages as well as being made into television series. The first story is still my favourite and I have used it countless times to promote learning within a variety of topics. It is particularly…
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr & Eric Carle
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? is a colourful first book for babies, a great book for a beginner reader and I have also read the English version many times to non native English speaking children.
Maps by Aleksandra Mizielinska & Daniel Mizielinski
The World Cup is over but conversations about the different countries that took part have given us lots of opportunities for learning geography. We’ve been poring over the pages in Maps by Aleksandra Mizielinska and Daniel Mizielinski, it’s a great book for introducing not only countries but also their flags, languages and landmarks.
Claude in the City by Alex T. Smith
Laughter is the best medicine and Claude and his faithful sidekick Sir Bobblysocks have definitely made my daughter laugh while she has been ill this week. We’ve read Claude in the City and Claude in the Country several times, our favourite part is when Claude has to take Sir Bobblysocks to hospital.
My Family Tree Book by Catherine Bruzzone & Caroline Jayne Church
I have bought My Family Tree Book for several children as presents and my daughter has just received a copy from her grandparents. It is a beautifully illustrated activity book for children to record information about parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles and cousins and draw their own family tree.
Favourite picture book Dads for Fathers’ Day
In celebration of Fathers’ Day we have chosen some of our favourite picture book dads to share with you. Our choices include bears, birds, single dads and Stick Man!
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson & Paul Howard
My teacher read The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark to my class when I was at school and earlier in the year I read it to my daughter for the first time. We’ve read it several times since, we both really enjoy the story and my daughter finds Plop’s conversations and adventures amusing.
Mr Birthday and Little Miss Birthday by Roger Hargreaves
Roger Hargreaves celebrated his birthday on May 9th and with a birthday coming up in our house we have been reading two of our favourite Mr Men books, Little Miss Birthday and Mr. Birthday. My daughter loves the glittery covers and both stories make us laugh. They are reasonably priced and would make a great birthday…
Penguin by Polly Dunbar
Penguin, a lovely story about friendship, loyalty and toddler tantrums, includes characters that children can identify with. My daughter was very excited to find the German translation ‘Sag doch was!’ in the library, it’s great to read a well loved story in another language.
How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers
Happy 10th birthday to Oliver Jeffers’ first picture book How to Catch a Star!
