Sunk! by Rob Biddulph
We love Rob Biddulph’s first picture book, Blown Away, in which we were introduced to Penguin Blue and his friends. Now they’re back in another story, Sunk!, a fun, rhyming adventure about pirates and friendship.
A Boy Called Christmas by Matt Haig & Chris Mould
A Boy Called Christmas was under my Christmas tree last year and I loved the story so much that I read the whole book on Christmas Day. I’ve just read it with my daughter and she was hooked too. It’s a wonderful festive read in which hope, kindness and the joy of giving triumph over poverty and greed. The blurb…
Odd Dog Out by Rob Biddulph
We were very lucky to win a signed copy of Odd Dog Out in a Twitter giveaway (thank you Rob Biddulph!). As big fans of Blown Away we were eager to see Rob’s latest picture book with its eye-catching cover. It’s a really fun story that conveys an important message about being who you are and…
The illustrated Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling & Jim Kay
How old were your children when they read Harry Potter for the first time? I read all the Harry Potter books as they came out but we weren’t sure when would be a good time to start reading them with our daughter. We started reading the new illustrated version of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone…
The Giraffe And The Pelly And Me by Roald Dahl & Quentin Blake
We read The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me in one sitting, the pace, the humour and the originality of the story kept us turning the pages until the end. A cast of colourful characters, a burglar and an amazing sweetshop feature in this amusing adventure.
The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas
The Colour Monster is a great book to introduce children to the relationship between colour and emotions. We love Anna Llenas’ fabulous illustrations which complement the simple text and help a mixed up little monster to understand how each colour makes him feel.
A Bear Called Paddington / More About Paddington by Michael Bond & Peggy Fortnum
From the moment that the Brown family meet a small bear on Paddington Station their life changes as the bear brings his own particular brand of chaos into their household! I have just finished reading the first two Paddington bear books to my daughter and there were two stories that made me laugh so much that I had tears…
Zog by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler
We love Zog! He’s a dragon who wants to do well at school but has problems when he tries to learn new skills. However, his story is great for showing that with perseverance you can become successful and good at something. The story also shows the development of his friendship with Princess Pearl, she’s not the kind of princess who wants to sit around the palace in…
A Book Cake For A New Baby
A friend of mine made me a beautiful diaper cake when I was pregnant. A diaper cake is mostly made up of nappies but various other baby accessories are included – dummies, bibs, washing and babycare accessories etc. We were also given two jigsaws and a Rainbow Fish CD.
