Small Steps, Big Change is inspired by The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It introduces us to twelve different heroes who have a particular area of expertise that shows us how we can look after ourselves, take care of others and help make our world a better place.
Introducing the heroes (clockwise from top left): Eat Well Hero, Energy Hero, Nature Hero, Fairness Hero, Sharing Hero, Curiosity Hero, Stay Well Hero, Equality Hero, Water Hero, Climate Action Hero, Kindness Hero, and Live Well Hero.

Climate Action Hero kicks off by explaining that humans have caused our earth to get dizzy and emphasises the fact that we can all work together to lessen the impact of climate change in the future. Eat Well Hero and Live Well Hero tell us how changing our food consumption and recycling and reusing can help our planet. Energy Hero, Water Hero and Nature Hero all explain how energy is produced, how we can save it and how we can look after our natural world.
Stay Well Hero, Equality Hero, Kindness Hero, Sharing Hero, Curiosity Hero and Fairness Hero focus on the personal qualities we can develop to care for ourselves, mentally and physically, as well as caring for others. And every single hero emphasises the importance of us all working together towards common goals for the good of our society and our planet.
We love the boldly coloured double page spreads which are full of energy to match the heroes’ enthusiasm. Small blocks of simple text make Small Steps, Big Change a great book for beginner readers to read independently and the extra details in the illustrations provide scope for discussions.

Small Steps, Big Change is a great book to stimulate classroom discussions about the small steps that we can all take to make our world a better, kinder place. Two free activity sheets are available to download – a heroes colouring sheet and a matching activity to complete once the book has been read.
