You Choose Christmas is a really fun, festive book that promotes speaking and listening skills while introducing children to various aspects of the Christmas season.
Each double page spread poses a question. For example, ‘If There was Snow at Christmas what would you choose to do?’ has a fabulous snowy landscape including sledging, snow angels, igloo making and skiing. The different spreads can initiate discussions about which jumper you would choose, which baubles you would hang on your tree, what you would choose to eat and which Christmas card you’d send. We particularly like the Christmas card spread as we learnt how people celebrate the season in different countries including Australia, Italy, Venezuela and Jamaica.
We love Nick Sharratt’s bold, colourful illustrations which are so full of amusing details. One of our favourite illustrations asks us to choose a jolly Christmas sweater, there’s even one for a dog! The final spread asks us to make a Christmas wish and we love the way that author Pippa and illustrator Nick are included in the illustration!
This is a really great book to share, for adults as well as children, and we have a lot of fun making choices from the pictures! It provides great opportunities to develop speaking and listening skills and introduce new vocabulary. I can also imagine using this book to stimulate discussions with non native English speakers (of all ages!).

There are several You Choose books. The original You Choose was one of the first books we recommended on Story Snug.
