The Not-So-Wicked Witch - Story Snug

The Not-So-Wicked Witch by Bethan Stevens

The Not-So-Wicked Witch doesn’t want to be wicked like all the other witches! In this beautifully illustrated picture book a battle between kindness and wickedness rages as a group of witches try to educate the littlest witch who just wants to be kind and thoughtful!

The Story: The littlest witch doesn’t enjoy being wicked and the other witches don’t understand that at all! They decide to rescue her before she becomes too nice and start planning lessons to help her become wicked. The littlest witch finds it really hard but when the witches decide to steal marshmallows from a birthday party she comes up with a plan to show them that kindness beats wickedness…

Cats, potions, witches and a huge cake – The Not-So-Wicked Witch has all the fun ingredients of a story that’s great to read at Halloween and is intertwined with an important message about being kind to others. The littlest witch is adorable and we love the way that she’s so self assured and not easily swayed, she does a fabulous job of turning the wicked witches’ plan on its head!

The whimsical watercolour illustrations portray a diverse cast of characters. There are so many wonderful details – we love the lessons that the wicked witches give and the way that their cats can be just as wicked too! Speech bubbles convey the witches’ thoughts as they attempt to school the littlest witch who can’t be swayed from staying true to her beliefs.

The Not-So-Wicked Witch is a wonderful book to stimulate conversation about how to be kind and think of others. In a humorous way it shows that acts of kindness can go a long way 🙂
