Monsters at Christmas - Story Snug

Monsters at Christmas by Laura Baker & Nina Dzyvulska

Monsters at Christmas is a vibrant picture book which introduces readers to festive preparations – monster style!

Among others we’re introduced to Twinkle Monster, Toes-y Monster, Angel Monster, Stocking Monster, Holly Monster and Wreath Monster. We love the way that Tall Monster helps Small Monster hang the Christmas balls and the impatience of Can’t Wait Monster and Which Date Monster as they open their Advent Calendars made us smile – they’re just like little kids!

Baking, snuggling in front of the fire, playing in the snow, decorating, shopping, wrapping, skating and a Christmas show are all included in the preparations. One of our favourite spreads shows Roar Monster, Soar Monster, Ring Monster and Cling Monster trying out the sleigh – Santa Monster doesn’t look too happy on this spread!

The illustrations are bold and brightly coloured, they perfectly complement the romping rhyming text. So many different monsters engaged in so many different activities give the child plenty to talk about and there are lots of humorous details from the expressions on the monsters’ faces to the activities that they’re doing.

We had fun looking for Santa Monster who is hiding in every spread…

Monsters at Christmas - Story Snug

Monsters at Christmas would be a fun book to read to a group of children in a preschool or early years classroom. They could then be encouraged to create their own Christmas monsters for a class book or a wall display.

What a super fun book! I love the idea of a monster Christmas, hehe.
I also love your suggestion of children making a monster Christmas display. That would be so colourful! 🙂
