Monsters in Trucks is a vibrant picture book which introduces readers to a world populated by monsters who drive trucks. Over forty different kinds of monsters are introduced in the story and many of them are busy with construction work as they build their monster city. But not all monsters are hardworking and helpful, there is also a monster thief on the loose!
Whizzy Monster, Scribbly Monster, Fancy Monster, Bonk Monster, Dump Monster all have their particular roles in the book. Jiggly Monster makes us laugh as he waits for the toilet and we also find the Free-Ride Monster funny. We love the Dancey-Monster towing superstars and the look on the Grump Monster’s face as he ends up driving into a hole.
The illustrations are bold, brightly coloured and complement the romping rhyming text perfectly. So many different monsters engaged in so many different activities give the child plenty to talk about and there are lots of humorous details from the expressions on the monsters’ faces to the activities that they’re doing.
Monsters in Trucks is such a great book for stimulating conversation – there is also a cute ladybug for children to spot in every scene. It would be a fun book to read to a group of children in a preschool or early years classroom. They could then be encouraged to create their own monsters for a class book or a wall display.
