We are delighted to be joining Rachael Davis and Beatrix Hatcher’s I am NOT a Prince! blog tour this week. I am NOT a Prince! is a fast paced, modern fairy tale which challenges gender stereotypes in a positive and child friendly way. The story is a wonderful celebration of being proud to be yourself and can be used to stimulate discussions about gender identity with children of all ages.
The Story: In a fairytale lagoon frogs wait to be turned into princes. But lonely Hopp has a different dream…
During a journey of self discovery Hopp’s encounters with mouse, bear and dragon demonstrate princely qualities. But arriving at a rainbow gate and meeting a wizard who listens to how Hopp truly feels leads to an understanding and a celebration of Hopp’s new identity.
The rhyming text in this beautifully illustrated story is sensitively written and conveys a wonderfully uplifting message – be proud of who you are. With its vibrant illustrations and a fabulous ending this is a book that can be used to initiate conversations about tolerance, kindness and inclusivity.
We absolutely love Beatrix Hatcher’s vibrant, colourful illustrations and the inclusion of so many rainbows. Her animals are adorable and we loved spotting the little ladybird on every page.
Hopp is an incredibly endearing character who goes through a range of emotions during the story. A big thank you to Beatrix Hatcher who has created a fabulous, easy to follow step by step guide so that you can draw your own Hopp…
Thank you so much for joining us Beatrix and congratulations to you and Rachael on your heartwarming and thought provoking picture book.
