Every Bunny is a Yoga Bunny is the beautifully illustrated story of Yo-Yo, a very fidgety bunny who can’t sit still. Grandpa’s yoga class gives Yo-Yo and young readers a great introduction to easy yoga poses. But can Yo-Yo stay still for long enough to learn…?
The Story: Grandpa decides to teach Yo-Yo, Roly and Flo yoga. But while Roly and Flo manage to keep still during the different poses, Yo-Yo is easily distracted. So much so that when she sees a butterfly she just has to chase it into a shadowy wood. Yo-Yo feels very lost until she remembers Grandpa’s yoga poses which help to keep her calm and find her way home.
We love the way that the child / grandparent relationship is portrayed and think it’s fabulous that Grandpa is sharing his experience with the bunnies. It’s great that he tries to help Yo-Yo without trying to change her. She’s just as fidgety at the end of the story but she also knows how to calm herself when she needs to – particularly at bedtime!
Yo-Yo’s curiosity and playfulness takes her on an adventure away from Grandpa, Roly and Flo. Her first instinct is to panic but as she flops to the ground she remembers one of Grandpa’s yoga poses. Calmly she relates the poses to her journey which enables her to find her way home.
Every Bunny is a Yoga Bunny is Emily Ann Davison’s debut picture book and her easy to read text bounces along like Yo-Yo. I’ve always been a fan of Deborah Allwright’s illustrations and her bunnies in this story are absolutely fabulous – they have such wonderfully emotive expressions as they try to follow Grandpa’s instructions.
Every Bunny is a Yoga Bunny is a wonderful story to share with children in a Nursery or Key Stage One classroom when things are getting a little noisy and everybody needs calming down. It lends itself beautifully to joining in and children can copy Grandpa’s poses as they listen to the story. Six easy yoga poses are introduced at the end of the book, all demonstrated by Yo-Yo.
