What Can You See? On the Farm is a peep through board book which is full of facts about farms. These sturdy pages introduce an amazing number of animals as well as information about their eating and sleeping habits. It’s a really fun first non fiction picture book for the littlest readers.
On the first page we meet a farmer at the farm shop where we are introduced to horses and rabbits. A tour follows where we learn about sheep, pigs and pond wildlife. Then we take a trip to the wheat fields before discovering who lives in a barn and what the farmer will have for tea!
There is so much learning in What Can You See? On the Farm. It’s an entertaining read which is full of bitesized facts that can stimulate discussions about different aspects of life on a farm. As well as animals we are introduced to farm vehicles, different crops, fish and birds as well as being encouraged to look for other kinds of wildlife.
What Can You See? On the Farm is a great example of a book that introduces a simple, everyday concept to toddlers and young children. There is lots of information packed on each page and it shows that early learning can be enjoyable and fun.
Maria Perera’s’ illustrations are full of colour and each page has a peep through hole in the middle which changes shape throughout the book and shows us what is happening in the fields. There are lots of little details to talk about and each page gives an opportunity for counting, by the end of the book we have counted up to five.
The book would make a fantastic addition to a nursery or Early Years classroom and can be used to introduce animals to very young children. With its sturdy cover it will withstand repeated reading by older babies and toddlers.
