Story Snug Advent – December 24th: Refuge

Yesterday’s book cover shows Mary on a donkey in Refuge by Anne Booth and Sam Usher. This story was chosen by Emma Perry for Story Snug’s 2015 Advent Calendar.

The Story: A donkey carries a woman to Bethlehem where she gives birth to a baby. Shepherds and kings visit them but then the man accompanying her has a dream that they are in danger. They make the journey into Egypt where they find Refuge.

Refuge is the story of Mary, Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus told through the eyes of the donkey. Although the characters aren’t named the story is so familiar that we immediately know whose story it is. Samuel Usher’s grey / blue illustrations perfectly complement the simplicity of the powerful text.

That was the last 2019 Story Snug Advent blogpost!

We hope you’ve enjoyed this year’s Advent Calendar and have had fun guessing which books the illustrations came from. We’ve really enjoyed choosing them and there were so many more that we wanted to include. Maybe next year 🙂

Have a wonderful Christmas and we wish you all peace, joy and happiness over the festive season.
