THE MOST WONDERFUL GIFT IN THE WORLD by Mark Sperring & Lucy Fleming

THE MOST WONDERFUL GIFT IN THE WORLD is a beautifully illustrated, heartwarming festive read which celebrates friendship and the joy of giving. Esme and her friend Bear make a treacherous Christmas Day journey through snow and wind to deliver a mysterious present to a rabbit that they have never met and it turns out to be an absolutely wonderful gift for them all…

The Story: On Christmas morning there is one present left under the tree and it’s not for Bear and it’s not for Esme. The present is for Little Bunny Boo-Boo. Esme and Bear set out to find Little Bunny Boo-Boo to give her the present. Their adventurous journey leads them to Little Bunny Boo-Boo’s cabin where they discover that she hasn’t received a single present. When she opens the present from Bear and Esme she discovers The Most Wonderful Gift in the World…

THE MOST WONDERFUL GIFT IN THE WORLD - Story Snug

Little Bunny Boo-Boo has just moved into the woods and doesn’t have any friends. During the journey Bear worries about the treacherous path and the howling gale but Esme is determined to keep going and they receive a warm welcome when they get to Little Bunny Boo-Boo’s cabin.

THE MOST WONDERFUL GIFT IN THE WORLD is a heartwarming story of friendship and giving. Bear is a lot more cautious than brave Esme but they have a wonderfully supportive relationship and are very surprised when they discover that they are what Little Bunny Boo-Boo has requested for Christmas.

Lucy Fleming’s whimsical illustrations perfectly evoke the experience of a wintery walk and a warm Christmassy atmosphere. Little Bunny Boo-Boo with her big blue glasses is absolutely adorable and we love Bear’s Christmas jumper and Esme’s cute boots.

The endpapers are beautiful wordless spreads that introduce and end the story. The first shows Little Bunny Boo-Boo arriving in the snowy woods and the final double spread is a beautiful night time scene showing a silhouette of the three characters having fun.

This beautiful Christmas story shows that material gifts are not the only gifts that can make us happy. Esme, Bear and Little Bunny Boo-Boo receive the gift of a fun day together and the start of a new friendship.

  1. This looks like a lovely Christmas book. I’m doing a Book Advent this year (still need to wrap them….not looking forward to that part!) and a few of his books this year will be too babyish for him next year. This will be ideal book to read to him next time. #MMBC

    • It’s a really important concept and now I’m older I appreciate the time spent with family and friends far more than presents (although they’re also lovely to receive!).

  2. What a beautifully illustrated book and such a lovely message! This will be perfect for our Christmas Eve box. 🙂
