Go, Go, Pirate Boat is a colourful, rhyming picture book which can be sung to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat. It’s a fun first picture book for toddlers and pre-schoolers, its rollicking rhyme keeps you turning the pages as you follow two little pirates on a seafaring adventure.
The Story: Two pirates and a parrot sail through bumpy waves across the salty sea. With the help of a map they dig for treasure before going home for tea.
The pirates raise the anchor and hoist the sail before sailing towards a remote island. As the waves rock their boat they see dolphins, whales, starfish, lobsters and a variety of tropical fish.
Nick Sharratt’s illustrations are bold and eye-catching. As in all good pirate stories there’s a parrot (wearing a pirate hat), a map (X marks the spot) and a treasure chest. A shark also lurks beneath the waves, our heroes temporarily lose their sunny smiles when they see him!
Go, Go, Pirate Boat is a fantastic book to read to preschool and reception children who will be able to join in with the bouncy rhyme. It gives opportunities for learning and recognising colours, counting and the introduction of different sea creatures helps to extend a child’s vocabulary.
This is such a fun story to read aloud. If you are looking for a first picture book it would make a great present for a young reader.
