It’s Christmas! is a lovely, feelgood festive story which makes us laugh. Parents, as well as children, will identify with Archie’s infectious, and sometimes overpowering, enthusiasm for all the preparations. Chaos reigns throughout the story and we love the humour in the illustrations.
The Story: Archie has written his letter to Santa and is throwing himself enthusiastically into Christmas preparations. After an accident with the tree Mum gives him the job of looking out for snow. Archie gets bored so he makes his own snow and in the ensuing chaos all the labels come off the presents. A snowy Christmas Day dawns and everybody opens the wrong presents. Can Archie really have the best Christmas ever?
Dad is baking and Mum is decorating but Archie isn’t impressed with either the tree or Dad’s biscuits so adds his own interpretation to both! His snow making really made us laugh (but Dad isn’t amused) and we love Mum’s face when she realises that the tree doesn’t look like the one in her Tasteful Christmas book!
The story has a really easy to read text and much of it is told through Tim Warnes’ wonderfully humorous illustrations. There are so many little details that make us laugh out loud – we love all the Christmas jumpers, especially Archie’s after he has finished making it more Christmassy, and Archie’s elf outfit is really cute. The confusion with the presents is funny (although we felt sorry for Granny who enjoyed the present that Dad was meant to receive!).
If you’re looking for an amusing story to add to a Book Tree Advent Calendar we’re sure that It’s Christmas! will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. Despite all the chaos that the season can bring the story shows that you can still have ‘the most Christmassy Christmas EVER!’

Hi Catherine, if my two were smaller this book would be a Christmas book I would buy. We always loved reading together, but reading Christmas books was special and I did buy some nice books that we now use as part of our Christmas decorations. I do wish children didn’t grow up!
Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

I hope that reading Christmas picture books will go on here for as long as possible! I love rediscovering the Christmas books at the beginning of December 🙂
This sounds great fun. I’m tempted to buy the German version for my 14 year old son who is learning German!
It is fun. They’ve changed Archie’s name to Robert in the German version, I hope your son enjoys it 🙂
