Refuge - Story Snug

Story Snug Advent: R is for Refuge

R is for Refuge by Anne Booth and Sam Usher

Refuge is the story of Mary, Joseph and the birth of baby Jesus told through the eyes of the donkey. The characters aren’t named but the story is so familiar that we immediately know whose story it is. The focus of the book is on the journey that the family makes after the birth and their dependence on the kindness of strangers to help them reach safety. It parallels a situation that many people in the world are sadly still experiencing. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of Refuge will go to charity – War Child in the UK and UNHCR in the USA.

The Story: A donkey carries a woman to Bethlehem where she gives birth to a baby. Shepherds and kings visit them but then the man has a dream that they are in danger. They make the journey into Egypt where they find Refuge.

Author: Anne Booth / Illustrator: Sam Usher

Last year book blogger Emma Perry also chose Refuge for Story Snug’s Advent Calendar.
