L is for Lucy & Tom At Christmas by Shirley Hughes
My brother had the original version of Lucy and Tom’s Christmas. It was reprinted in 2015 as Lucy & Tom At Christmas and has a new cover. I love the colour scheme, red and gold decorations on Christmas trees are my favourite! The story mirrors my childhood Christmases and I love the way that Shirley Hughes acknowledges that all the excitement can also be a bit much for children and make them grumpy and cross as well!
The Story: Lucy and Tom’s Christmas celebrations start with them stirring the Christmas pudding. Preparations continue with writing to Father Christmas, present wrapping and decorating the tree. Lucy and Tom wake up early for a traditional English Christmas Day with a church service, followed by lunch and games by the fire.

The Little Christmas Tree by Rachel Elliot, Vicki Gausden & Corina Fletcher is a story and a Christmas decoration all in one!
A childhood favourite of mine, Little Grey Rabbit’s Christmas by Alison Uttley and Margaret Tempest, has been reprinted for a new generation of young readers.
Last Stop On The Reindeer Express by Maudie Powell-Tuck & Karl James Mountford is a magical adventure. Full of love and warmth it can help children understand that sometimes families may have to spend Christmas apart.
Lucy helps to take care of one of Santa’s reindeer in Lucy’s Secret Reindeer by Anne Booth and Sophy Williams.
We’re currently reading Letters From Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien who wrote a letter every year to his children with stories about life at The North Pole.
