K is for Katie’s London Christmas by James Mayhew
Katie’s London Christmas was published in the year that we spent our first Christmas in London and it added to the magic of the season. Katie and her little brother Jack are the stars of a Christmas Eve adventure with Father Christmas over the capital. It’s fun to spot the many familiar landmarks in James Mayhew’s gorgeous illustrations. One of our highlights this year was watching James draw while he told stories at The National Gallery in London.
The Story: On Christmas Eve Katie and Jack are sleeping at Grandma’s house when they are woken by a loud sneeze. Father Christmas is downstairs and has a cold so they offer to help him deliver the presents. During their sleigh ride over snowy London they see many famous sights before sliding down chimneys to deliver presents. The final ‘house’ on their list is Buckingham Palace and when Father Christmas’ sneeze wakes the corgis they are almost disturbed by a member of the Royal Family. Katie and Jack fly home with Father Christmas and next morning they find that he has left them a special present under their Christmas tree.
