The Story: Unlike the rest of the town, the mean old Grinch doesn’t like Christmas. He thinks it’s just about giving presents and eating feasts. So he sets about stealing all the gifts and food…but he soon realises that, for the Whos in Whoville, Christmas is really about sharing and friendship and love.
Why is How The Grinch Stole Christmas your favourite Christmas book?
I love this book. The rhyme is completely addictive. As of around 1st December it sneaks into my brain like an earworm and I find I’m unable to stop myself chanting ‘Every Who down in Who-ville liked Christmas a lot…’ I’ve always been a big Seuss fan. I love the silliness of his illustrations, the musicality of his words and the crazy humour he extracts from every situation. The book has a lovely message about sharing and positivity…plus who can resist a dog in a reindeer costume?
Can you describe a favourite illustration or give a favourite quote from How The Grinch Stole Christmas and tell us why you chose it?
Being a soppy kind of person, I love the scene where the Grinch has a change of heart and comes racing down the snowy mountain with his sleigh to join in the celebrations. He’s standing on top of the huge pile of presents, blowing a trumpet, and Max, his dog (still dressed as a reindeer) is proudly pushing the sleigh down the hill.
