The Story: A hungry badger spots a boy drop his sandwich in the sandpit and the race is on to bag it! As the chase continues through the park, the sandwich gets more and more disgusting. By the time the badger gets to it, it’s sandy, squashed and slimy. Will he eat it? You’ll have to read The Disgusting Sandwich to find out!
Like all good picture books, the text is great fun to read aloud and the disgustingness of the sandwich builds and builds as the badger chases it through the park. Hannah Shaw’s hilarious (and fabulously revolting) illustrations are the perfect match for the text. The ending of The Disgusting Sandwich might surprise you and will definitely make you chuckle (here’s a clue – it’s disgusting).
There is plenty going on in the illustrations for children to point out and the hapless badger can be spotted trying to get his paws on the sandwich (and failing) in every spread.
A fun romp that my toddler loves.
