It’s World Nursery Rhyme Week! Will you be singing and reading stories? Do you have any favourite picture books with nursery rhyme characters in them?
We have several on our bookshelves, it’s always fun to spot the nursery rhyme characters in the illustrations.
Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allan Ahlberg: We’ll be looking carefully for the nursery rhyme characters hiding in the illustrations. This book is such a favourite here that we can almost quote it off by heart 🙂
The Jolly Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg: We’ll be reading all the letters that the nursery rhyme characters receive.
The Jolly Christmas Postman inspired us to make our own version of a nursery rhyme and fairytale game! It always makes us laugh to read what we wrote!
The Fairytale Hairdresser by Abie Longstaff and Lauren Beard: We’ll be looking for the nursery rhyme characters that visit Kitty Lacey’s hair salon.
We also love the scenes at the end of The Fairytale Hairdresser and Father Christmas which show nursery rhyme and fairytale characters ice skating together on Christmas Day.
What’s the Time, Mr Wolf? by Debi Gliori: We’ll be looking out for all the nursery rhyme characters that Mr Wolf meets during his busy day (and putting our fingers in our ears when the cat starts playing his fiddle!).
Usborne Nursery Rhyme Songbook by Caroline Hopper and Radhi Parekh: We’ll be playing and singing some of our favourite nursery rhymes. They are also accompanied by an easy to play music score.
Which nursery rhyme characters are in your favourite picture books? Who will you be reading about during World Nursery Rhyme Week?
