We’re starting to think about Christmas picture books and Aliens Love Panta Claus was one of the books under our Christmas tree last year. Those of you who know the hilarious Aliens Love Underpants story will know that the aliens steal the underpants. Aliens love Panta Claus is just as funny, in this story they help Santa by giving underpants away!
The Story: On Christmas Eve the aliens pack their spaceship with underpants and fly off to help Santa with his preparations. Disaster strikes when Santa’s sleigh breaks down so the aliens give Santa a lift in their spaceship, help him to deliver all the presents and even add a few extra panty decorations to everybody’s Christmas trees.
Aliens Love Panta Claus is a hilarious rhyming story with bold, colourful pictures. Everybody wears underpants in this story including the birds, the reindeer (who have glow in the dark pants!) and the snowman. The aliens even swap Santa’s sack for a pair of large bloomers, swap children’s stockings for underpants and hang up lovely festive panty garlands. They also pack a pair of pants in each present (we did the same with my daughter’s presents last Christmas which made her laugh!).
The rhyming text is funny, easy to read and my daughter giggles her way through each reading. There is so much humour in the pictures, each page is a colourful, double spread. I read it to a group of 4 to 6 year olds last Christmas and they were almost sitting on my lap by the end of the story so that they could get a closer look at Ben Cort’s great illustrations. The aliens are very cute and my daughter loves counting their eyes and choosing her favourite pair of underpants on each page. There are also double page spreads at the beginning and end of the book with a selection of underpants, we always like to choose our favourite before we start reading.
I would definitely recommend Aliens Love Panta Claus as a Christmas present, it gives the message that Christmas is a time of giving in a fun way and the story includes traditional aspects of Christmas (stockings, trees, presents) from a ‘pantastic’ angle (just don’t forget to put a pair of pants in when you wrap it up!).
A very funny pre Christmas read.
