Last autumn I went to my first SCBWI (Society of Childrens’ Book Writers and Illustrators) meeting. I wanted to connect with some other writers, especially picture book authors. At around the same time I watched the film Julie and Julia, both events inspired Story Snug.
Until my writing group talked about it and I saw the film, blogging was a bit of an alien concept and I wasn’t a regular blog reader. My husband’s encouragement and technical expertise led to the birth of Story Snug and I spent some time reading other people’s blogs and familiarising myself with the software before Story Snug went ‘live’ on October 8th.
Happy 1st Birthday Story Snug!
I have always loved picture books and enjoy writing my own. As we have read to our daughter since she was born there was no question about what I would blog about. I am often asked by parents in our expat community which books I would recommend for their children so it was a natural progression to blog about something that I was already doing.
I have had such a fantastic year blogging with support from some amazing people. Thank you to my biggest supporter, my husband, who looks after the technical side of Story Snug. Thank you also to my daughter who offers great insights into the books we read and is always prepared to listen to me reading stories.
Starting Story Snug also meant becoming more active on social media, particularly Twitter and Google+. Through these online communities I have ‘met’ lots of other book lovers and discovered some fantastic book blogs. Their links are on Story Snug’s blog roll so do please go and visit them. I love the fact that everybody has their own individual voice and style and I would like to thank all of you for your help and support.
I would like to thank the writers and illustrators (near and far!) who I have met through SCBWI for their inspiration and continuing support. I would also like to thank all of you who read Story Snug, not just my close friends but also friends of friends, SCBWI friends and new friends from all over the world. I appreciate your support and I love reading your comments.
A big thank you to the authors and illustrators who have written guest posts for Story Snug this year. It’s always great to hear what you’re reading with your own children or which picture books have inspired your own writing and illustrating. If any picture book authors or illustrators would like to write a guest post for Story Snug please do get in touch. Thank you also to the publishers, authors and illustrators who have sent us books to potentially recommend on the blog or to offer for giveaway prizes.
So what’s next for Story Snug? We are currently working on a new design and I have a few ideas about things that I would like to add and change. I’d like to surprise you! There’s a first birthday giveaway coming later today……………………… 🙂
Thank you to everybody who has wishes Story Snug a Happy 1st Birthday on social media. I hope that Story Snug will be around for many years to come!
