The Usborne Nursery Rhyme Songbook by Caroline Hooper & Radhi Parekh

I bought The Usborne Nursery Rhyme Songbook after a friend recommended it. The book includes 42 traditional nursery rhymes with sheet music. It also has an accompanying CD which includes all of the rhymes beautifully sung by a children’s choir.

My daughter likes to look at the songbook while listening to the CD but we also spend a lot of time at the piano singing our favourites. Radhi Parekh’s illustrations are very traditional with lots of wonderful details which make it a good book to snuggle up with. An added bonus is that some of the rhymes have extra verses that we didn’t previously know.

The Usborne Nursery Rhyme Songbook and CD have proved to be great resources both in a nursery / kindergarten classroom. I have also used it with groups of non native English speaking children.

Age Range: 2+

Author: Caroline Hooper / Illustrator: Radhi Parekh

If you are looking for a compilation of children’s songs I also recommend My First Album (CD and DVD). It has 50 children’s songs including nursery rhymes, action songs, television theme tunes and traditional children’s songs, a great variety for a car journey. I can’t comment on the DVD as we have never watched it!

I bought this book for our daughter when she was only a year old. She absolutely loved it then and still loves it now, 3 years later. She sits on my lap while I play the piano and sing. She sings too. It has been a brilliant buy and I would highly recommend it.

My daughter and I have also spent a lot of time sitting at the piano with this book. I can imagine it could also be one of the first music books that she will use if she ever learns to play an instrument.
