Little Bear’s Trousers is one of our favourite picture book. We love the playroom adventures with Old Bear and his friends and there is so much humour in this story as Little Bear tries to find his trousers.
The Story: Little Bear wakes up and he can’t find his trousers. Throughout the story we meet his friends in the playroom who have borrowed them and used them in various different ways. Finally Little Bear finds his trousers but they need a wash before he can wear them again.
Children can easily identify with the Old Bear characters and on first reading of the story there is an element of ‘guess what the trousers are being used for’. Jane Hissey’s pictures are adorable with lots to look at and talk about. All her stories are perfect first adventures for young children and make a great bedtime read.
The Old Bear stories were first published in 1986. I read them to the first classes that I taught but they have stood the test of time and I am now revisiting them with my daughter who is a huge fan. Little Bear’s Trousers is just one of several that we like and was republished in September 2012.
