Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk are all brought to life through Stephen Tucker’s wonderful rhyming text and Nick Sharratt’s bold, colourful pictures in fun to read lift-the-flap fairy tales.
These lift-the-flap fairy tales with an accompanying CD are ideal for introducing young children to traditional fairy tales. They are written sensitively and with humour and avoid scaring young readers. The pages are sturdy, the pictures are bold and colourful and I find the rhymes well written and very easy to read. The CDs are nicely done with two versions of the stories, a read alone version and one with page turning sounds.
My daughter had Cinderella and The Three Little Pigs for her second birthday and still loves to hear them despite now having a ‘more grown up’ book of Fairy Tales. The rhymes are now so familiar to her that as a beginner reader she can ‘read’ the books by herself.
I have often used these stories in the reception / year one classroom. The bold pictures and the simple text make them great to read aloud to a group. I’ve just ordered Jack and the Beanstalk to read to introduce a session on growing beans.
A great introduction to fairy tales!
